Project Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Naval Architect to lead the integration of autonomous navigation systems into our existing fleet of specialized survey vessels. This project aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce reliance on human operators in hazardous environments, and improve data acquisition capabilities during oceanographic research missions. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing the impact of autonomous systems on vessel stability, hydrodynamic performance, and overall structural integrity. This includes developing detailed modification plans, conducting simulations, and overseeing the implementation process in close collaboration with our engineering and software development teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive stability analyses to evaluate the effects of autonomous system components (e.g., sensors, actuators, power systems) on vessel stability under various operational conditions.
  • Perform hydrodynamic simulations to assess the impact of autonomous navigation algorithms on vessel maneuverability, seakeeping, and resistance.
  • Develop detailed modification plans, including structural reinforcements and system integrations to ensure safe and reliable operation of the autonomous vessel.
  • Collaborate with software engineers to define interface requirements and validate system performance through rigorous testing and simulations.
  • Oversee the implementation of modifications, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to the project team on naval architecture principles and autonomous vessel design.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate project progress and findings.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience as a Naval Architect, with a proven track record of successful vessel design or modification projects.
  • Strong understanding of vessel stability, hydrodynamic performance, and structural integrity principles.
  • Proficiency in naval architecture software such as Maxsurf, OrcaFlex, or similar tools.
  • Experience with autonomous navigation systems and their integration into marine vessels is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Deliverables:

  • Detailed stability analysis reports.
  • Hydrodynamic simulation results.
  • Modification plans and specifications.
  • Technical documentation.
